Orders & Custom Jewelry

Can I customize an existing design?

Once a ring is listed on our website, we are not able to make changes to it, but we’d love to create something similar for you! Most of the time we can’t replicate a design exactly due to the unique nature of our gemstones, but we can craft a new ring with the same setting and similar color or shape gem. Some gems are truly unrepeatable. In this case we will work to find another stone that’s equally as unique for you. That’s the beauty of Porter Gulch Jewelry—many designs are truly one of a kind.

Can you create a completely custom ring or piece of jewelry?

Yes! We love bringing unique visions to life. Whether you’re dreaming of a one-of-a-kind engagement ring, a redesign of a family heirloom, or a special piece made just for you, we can guide you through the custom design process.

How long does a custom project take?

Our custom projects typically take about 4–5 weeks to create. If we’re sourcing a gemstone for you, please allow an additional 1–3 weeks for that process. Timelines can vary depending on the complexity of the design and gemstone availability, but we’ll keep you updated every step of the way! If you have a specific deadline in mind, let us know—we’ll do our best to accommodate.

Can I use my own diamond or gemstone in a custom piece?

Absolutely! We love giving new life to heirloom stones and would be honored to create a custom piece using yours. If you have a family gemstone you'd like to incorporate, or if you'd prefer to source a gem from another company, we’re happy to set it for you.

Please note that there is a Heirloom & Outside Stone Setting Fee that starts at $400. Additionally, while we take every precaution to care for your stone, there is always a small risk involved in removing and resetting gemstones. Because of this, we require our clients to sign a Release of Liability form when working with stones not sourced by Porter Gulch.

Can I make changes to my design after seeing the CAD images?

Yes! About two weeks into the custom design process, you’ll receive CAD images of your custom project. At this stage, you’re welcome to request revisions to ensure the design is exactly what you envision.

Once you give your final approval and we begin crafting the ring, we’re unable to accommodate further changes. Don’t worry—we’ll guide you through the entire approval process to make sure you love your design before moving forward!

Do you offer engraving?

Yes! We work with a skilled local engraver who offers a variety of engraving styles. If you’re interested, please reach out to us for more details and pricing options.

Materials & Sourcing

Where do you source your sapphires?

We source our sapphires from all over the world, carefully selecting each one for its beauty, quality, and ethical origins. Many of our stones come from regions known for their exceptional gems, including Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Australia, Nigeria, and Montana, USA. We work closely with trusted vendors who prioritize responsible mining practices.

Are your gems ethically sourced?

Yes, we are committed to ethical sourcing and purchase our gems from trusted vendors who uphold the highest standards of integrity and responsible practices. Many of our vendors have been our partners for nearly a decade, and our relationships are built on a foundation of transparency. If you’d like to learn more about our vendors and sourcing process, we’d be happy to discuss in more detail with you!

Do you work with lab-grown diamonds?

Yes, we are happy to source natural or lab-grown diamonds for your project. Many of our designs can be made with either natural or lab-created accent diamonds as well.

What metals do you offer?

We work with 14k and 18k gold in yellow, white, and rose, as well as platinum. Each of these metals is durable enough for everyday wear while offering its own unique beauty and character. We’re happy to help you choose the best option for your design!

Production & Turnaround Time

How long does it take to receive my order?

  • Ready-to-ship items (such as earrings, necklaces, and rings that do not require resizing) will ship within 1-3 business days.
  • Rings that require resizing will ship within 7-10 business days.
  • Custom projects vary based on the design's complexity, but most are completed and shipped within 4-6 weeks.

Can I rush my order?

Sometimes! Please reach out to us, and we’ll do our best to accommodate your timeline. Rush availability depends on our current workload and the complexity of your design.

If a custom ring isn’t possible within your timeframe, be sure to check out our ready-to-ship collection—it’s always stocked with beautiful options!

Do you offer resizing services?

Yes! We offer one complimentary resize for engagement rings and wedding bands to ensure your forever piece fits perfectly. Please note that shipping costs both ways are the buyer’s responsibility. Clients are welcome to drop off/pick-up their rings for resizing at our Sausalito showroom. Appointments are required.

For all other rings, resizing starts at $95, with the final cost depending on how many sizes the ring needs to be adjusted. If you need a resize, reach out to us at team@portergulch.com for a quote!

What if I don’t know my ring size?

No problem! We’re happy to help you find the perfect fit. Here are a few options:

  • Order a complimentary ring sizer – Reach out to us at team@portergulch.com, and we’ll share which ones we recommend.
  • Visit the Porter Gulch showroom (or a local jeweler if you aren’t located nearby) – We will quickly measure your ring size for free. Book an appointment here.

If your ring doesn’t fit perfectly when it arrives, we offer one complimentary resize for engagement rings and wedding bands (buyer covers shipping both ways). For other rings, resizing starts at $95. Let us know if you need assistance—we’re happy to help!

Shipping & Returns

When can I expect my order to ship?

Ready-to-ship items—e.g. earrings, necklaces, and rings that do not require resizing—will ship within 1-3 business days. Rings that require resizing will be shipped within 7-10 days. 

For custom projects, shipping times will vary depending on the scope of the project. On average, these items are created and shipped within 4-6 weeks. You will receive tracking information from us when your package ships.

What shipping carrier do you use?

We ship via FedEx or UPS 2-Day Service and will provide a tracking number as soon as your order is on its way. All packages are fully insured and require a signature upon delivery to ensure your purchase is protected and safely received. If you won’t be available to sign at the time of delivery, we can arrange to have your package held at a UPS Store. 

We’re pleased to offer complimentary shipping for domestic orders.

For our international clients, orders are shipped via UPS Worldwide Saver, which typically arrives within about 1-5 business days. *Please see below for more details regarding international shipping fees.

Do you ship internationally?

We’re happy to ship internationally to countries where insurance is available. We currently ship to:

  • Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom.

Please note:

  • All international sales are final.
  • We may require additional identification documents before processing your order.
  • Duties and customs fees are the responsibility of the purchaser. See below for more information.

Are duties and customs fees included in international orders?

No, these fees are not included in the purchase price or shipping cost. All duties, taxes, and customs fees are the responsibility of the purchaser.

We strongly recommend that you research your country’s import regulations before placing an order, as customs policies vary. Any additional charges imposed by your country’s customs office must be paid by you upon delivery.

Porter Gulch is not responsible for any customs fees, delays, or issues related to international shipments.

What is your return and exchange policy?

If you’re not completely satisfied with your Porter Gulch purchase, we offer returns and exchanges on eligible items.

Returns

  • Returns must be requested within 7 days of purchase (or within 7 days of delivery for online orders).
  • Items must be in their original, unworn, and unused condition.
  • You will be refunded in the same payment method used for your purchase, minus shipping charges and a 5% restocking fee.

Exchanges

  • Exchanges must be requested within 7 days of purchase (or within 7 days of delivery for online orders).
  • Items must be in their original, unworn, and unused condition.
  • No restocking fee will be applied for exchanges of equal or greater value.

Final Sale Items

The following items cannot be returned or exchanged:

  • Custom projects, resized rings, and made-to-order pieces
  • Sale items
  • International orders

Additional Details

  • Shipping and handling fees are non-refundable.
  • The purchaser is responsible for return shipping costs.

What happens if my package is lost or stolen?

All Porter Gulch shipments are fully insured for their value and require a signature upon delivery for added security. If you prefer, we can also arrange to have your package held at a UPS Store for convenient and secure pickup.

In the rare event that a package is lost or stolen, we will file a claim with our insurance provider. While we handle the process, some minimal effort may be required on your end to assist with the claim. If you have any concerns about your delivery, please reach out to us at team@portergulch.com—we’re here to help!

Do you require signature confirmation on deliveries?

Yes, all Porter Gulch shipments require a signature at time of delivery.If you prefer, we can also arrange to have your package held at a UPS Store for convenient and secure pickup.

Care & Repairs

How should I care for my fine jewelry?

What should I do if my ring needs resizing?

We can help!  We offer one complimentary resize for engagement rings and wedding bands to ensure your forever piece is just right. Please note that shipping costs both ways are the buyer’s responsibility.

For other rings, resizing starts at $95, with the final cost depending on how many sizes the ring needs to be adjusted, the metal, etc. Feel free to reach out for a quote—we’re happy to help!

Do you offer repairs and a warranty?

At Porter Gulch, we create jewelry designed to last a lifetime, but fine jewelry may require maintenance over the years. If your Porter Gulch piece needs repair, we’re here to help.

Porter Gulch Warranty

We offer a 1-year warranty on all accent stones (under 3mm) and will replace them free of charge within this period. Please note:

  • This does not include repairs or replacements for center stones.
  • If your gemstone is one-of-a-kind, we may not have an exact replacement, but we’ll work with you to find the best solution.
  • Repairs needed due to damage beyond normal wear and tear will incur a fee.

Repairs Beyond the Warranty

For repairs outside the 1-year warranty or for more extensive repairs—including those involving your center stone—please contact us for a custom quote.

  • Clients are responsible for all shipping costs to and from our studio.
  • We strongly recommend purchasing insurance and requesting signature confirmation for your package.
  • Porter Gulch is not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen packages. We encourage all clients to purchase insurance when shipping jewelry for peace of mind.

Payment & Financing

Do you offer payment plans or financing?

Yes! We offer financing through Bread Pay to make your purchase more manageable. On each product listing, you’ll find an "As low as $..." link located under the "Add to Cart" button—click it to explore your financing options and find a plan that works for you.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover) as well as ApplePay, PayPal and ShopPay.

Do you charge sales tax?

Yes, we collect California sales tax.

Miscellaneous

Do you offer appraisals?

We work with a third-party appraiser and are happy to facilitate the assessment of your jewelry. The cost is $225 per piece.

Do you have a showroom or studio I can visit?

Absolutely! We welcome clients to our showroom in Sausalito—just one exit north of the Golden Gate Bridge—by appointment only. You can schedule a visit with us here. We’d love to meet you!

Our jewelry is also available in limited collections at these retailers.

Do you buy-back rings?

While we don’t buy back or resell rings, many of our clients have had success selling their pieces on platforms like eBay, First Dibs, and The RealReal.
